About

“Creating pieces that can be used every day and yet still create a sense of occasion, is not just about aesthetics, but rather, it is the inherent qualities that the pieces possess.”

Laura Duval is an artist, designer and metalsmith who is based in York. Duval works from her studio at Southbank Studios which is located in Southlands Methodist Church in Bishopthorpe York.

After returning to education as a mature student, Duval graduated with a first-class degree with honours, in Contemporary Crafts at York College. She then went on to study at Sheffield Hallam University where she completed her Master’s Degree in Design.

Duval hand makes original works for sale, from bowls and spoons to decorative items and Jewellery. Working primarily with copper, but also incorporating silver and brass within her work.

Using a combination of traditional silversmithing techniques, along with her love of texture, which can be seen throughout her work, Duval creates simple, understated and elegant pieces of work.
